why decision-making counseling?
Whether it’s fear of judgment or failure, or insecurity about how someone else will perceive our choices, “decision anxiety” can come from many places.
Then what happens? We go to great lengths to make what we think is the “right” decision, or we avoid making one completely so we don’t have to think about it.
So many people deal with what I’ve coined a “decision-making disorder.” After working to bridge the gap of understanding—or lack of understanding—about patterns and behaviors among individuals, small business owners and couples for years, I realized we needed a better common language, so I made up that term!
Decisions are everywhere, and we have to make thousands of them every day. Imagine how your day goes if most of these decisions seem to carry the emotional intensity to either make or break your business or even your life.
As a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist through the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals “iaedp”, and a Certified Financial Recovery Counselor through the Financial Recovery Institute, I have the expertise to understand the deeper issues that may prompt money and food patterns that cause dysfunction in someone’s life. Whether a client is working on healing eating disorder/disordered eating issues, or coming to me to work through distress in their financial life, taking a look at their underlying decision patterns is part of that path to healing.
Money and food decisions are some of the most externally-seen and internally-feared. People find money and food changes so challenging because they can’t “cold turkey” their way out of addictive behaviors.
And, your mistakes and patterns aren’t logic- or intellect-based, so it can be difficult to recognize them without working through the financial trauma or eating disorder.
Another hurdle: change starts deep in your thoughts and feelings, so there’s no immediate gratification on the outside. This can lead to feeling completely stuck and overwhelmed.
exploring your decision-making matrix
Over the years, clients have come to me with a variety of issues—with themselves, their businesses and their relationships. I noticed a connection between all of them; an underlying mystery driver…decisions.
There are layers upon layers of thoughts and feelings that go into behaviors around things like money or food. When we don’t understand these layers, we miss the hidden meaning entirely. These layers make up our “decision matrix.”
Until we become aware of our own decision matrix, we exhaust ourselves by running through the “if this, then that” scenarios. We may wonder why we keep repeating behavior patterns, without realizing the motivation behind our actions.
You have the inner strength and wisdom to change these patterns—you just need to tap into these qualities! I’m here to guide you as we explore your decision-making matrix and drive positive change in a safe and judgment-free space. Learn more about decision-making disorders here.
